Mrs. Coons was an old resident of this county, but for several years had made her home in Sedalia with her son Charles. She came in only a few days ago to visit relatives. The family hearing a noise went to her bed, but the summons had come, soon the struggle was over. She has surely had a triumphant welcome to the skies. May we be able to leave a record as clean and beautiful as that left by our old friend, "Aunt Beckey." Newspaper clipping, scrapbook of Mrs. Loy (Crump) Martin of Ashland, Mo., no name or date of paper. Mrs. Rebecca Coons died very suddenly at this place Monday morning. For the past three years Mrs. Coons has been living in Sedalia with her son Charles, and at the time of her death was visiting James Pauley and family here. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church by Rev. I.N. Martin, after which the body was laid to rest in Salem cemetery. Columbia Missouri Herald, 5 January 1900, p. 17, col. 2. ASHLAND. Charley Coons came from Sedalia Tuesday to attend the funeral of his mother. The funeral sermon was preached by J. W. Martin at Ashland Baptist church, the remains interred at New Salem cemetery.
