Wilson R. Kouba, a much loved husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 90 Thursday July 16, 2009 at St Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Memorial service will be 10:00am Saturday July 18, 2009 at the Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. Rev. Laurie Riley will officiate at the service. Friends many call starting at 9:00am Saturday at the funeral home in Anamosa. Thoughts, memories and condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com.

Surviving is his wife Virginia; 3 children Keith (Becky) of Marion, Craig (Robin) of Fargo, North Dakota and Mary Ann (Larry) of Laytonville, CA; 7 grandchildren Jennifer, Jason, Chi, Sara, Cassandra, Mackenzie and Samantha; He was preceded in death by his parents.

Wilson was born March 31, 1919 to William and Amanda Kouba of Luzerne, Iowa. He attended Cornell College and graduated from College of Pharmacy at the University of Iowa. Wilson and Virginia Blocher were married April 25, 1942. Wilson served as a Pharmacist Mate in WWII. After working in Leon, Iowa and Humboldt, Iowa he bought the pharmacy in Anamosa in 1949 where he had a long and happy career at Kouba Pharmacy. While on Main Street Wilson was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce; Methodist Church; Anamosa Hospital; Fawn Creek Country Club and a Scout Leader to list some.

VIRGINIA KOUBA Anamosa Virginia Kouba, 98, of Anamosa, died Jan. 1, 2020, at the Anamosa Care Center. Funeral services will be held at a later date. Thoughts, memories and condolences can be shared with her family at www.goettschonline.com. Virginia Blocher was born Feb. 23, 1921, in Vinton, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Henkle) Blocher. On April 25, 1942, she married Wilson Kouba in De Witt, Iowa. During World War II, she served her country in the U.S. Marine Corps, attaining the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. The couple owned and operated Kouba Pharmacy for 42 years, retiring in 1991. Active in numerous community groups, Virginia was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed gardening and making countless Christmas cookies for the pharmacy's customers over the years. She is survived by her children, Keith Kouba, Anamosa, Mary (Larry) Gamble, Laytonville, Calif., and Craig (Robin) Kouba, Fargo, N.D.; and grandchildren, Jennifer Fumerola, Jason Kouba, Cassandra Kouba, MacKenzie Kouba, Sammantha Kouba Chiyuma Elliot and Sarah Gamble. She was preceded in death by her husband of 77 years, Wilson; a daughter-in-law, Becky Kouba; her parents; and a brother, Harold. He and his brother Emil Sr., were merchants and ran the Kouba Bros. store in Luzerne, IA for 45 years. He graduated from Epworth Seminary (Methodist) in 1999. They were two members of a men's quartet in the Blairstown, IA, Methodist Episcopal church. The other two members of the quartet were the Meiners brothers. William was the Luzerne, IA postmaster for many years. He is buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blairstown, IA. He graduated from Epworth Academy, Epworth, Iowa in 1899. He was postmaster at Luzerne for 42 years, retiring in December 1944.
