Grace Virginia Street Johnmeyer (1923-2010)
Longtime Fayette resident Grace Virginia Street Johnmeyer passed away Wednesday (March 17, 2010) at University Hospital in Columbia. She was 86.
Born in Fayette on May 12, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Madison and Freda Rebecca Murray Street. On Dec. 27, 1942, she married Julius Henry Johnmeyer in Fayette. He preceded her in death May 15, 2003.
In her life, being a homemaker was first and foremost in Grace's life. Providing a loving home for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was of great importance to her.
Mrs. Johnmeyer was a member of the Fayette First Christian Church where she was the first woman church elder and the first woman to be chairperson of the church board. She was a member of the Golden Study Club, University Extension Clubs, former chairperson of the Howard County Republican Committee, and helped start the Fayette Senior Citizens Center, plus driving an OATS bus for several years.
Survivors include two sons, Glenn Johnmeyer and wife Andrea of Palmer, Alaska, and J.A. Johnmeyer and wife Cathy of Fayette; five daughters, Judy Strodtman, Nancy Symes and Donna Johnmeyer, all of Fayette, Connie Johnmeyer of the Azores, Portugal, and Tina Arredondo and husband Roel of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Kenneth Street and wife Vivian of Fayette; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Gloria Johnmeyer of St. Louis, Lois Johnmeyer, Bertha Johnmeyer and Gladys Street of Fayette, and Alberta Newman and husband Bill of Springfield.
In addition to her parents and husband, brothers Lilburn Street, Joseph Harold Street and Elwood Street and a sister, Edith Ewens, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at the Fayette First Christian Church with the Rev. Paula Ritchie officiating, with burial at Fayette City Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette.
Casketbearers will be Darrell Symes, Garrett Johnmeyer, Aaron Johnmeyer, Timothy Golden, Mark Golden, Andrew Johnmeyer, Jose Arredondo, Daniel Arredondo, Lucas Arredondo, Rusty Strodtman and Douglas Strodtman. Honorary bearers will be Angela Allphin, Alison Parish, Morgan Johnmeyer, Elizabeth Conrow, Anna Howard, Kate Johnmeyer, Monica Glenn, Ana Polson, Victoria Arredondo, Margarita Arredondo, Duane Symes, Samuel Johnmeyer, Marco Arredondo and David Ammons.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church in care of Carr-Yager Funeral Home, 204 N. Linn Ave., Fayette, Missouri 65248.
