Hello Jim,

I took from his funeral sermon that he arrived in Regensburg with his family on October 8, 1641.
I assume that this is correct, because in August 1641 he already held two trial sermons in Regensburg.
Two months later he stayed there until the end of his life.

I received the following information from the Greiz State Archives:

„M. Andreas Steiner was quite obviously pastor in Zeulenroda for only about 1 year. There are no parish records for Zeulenroda from this period. He succeeded M. Daniel Müller,
who went to Greiz as archdeacon in September 1640. Probably at the end of October or beginning of November 1640 he began his work in Zeulenroda. In August 1641 he already
held 2 trial sermons in Regensburg at the request of the Regensburg city council and then probably went to Regensburg in the fall of 1641.“

There is one source that claims that Andreas had a second wife, Rosina Bernhardina Emhard. However this is disproved and an identical marriage to another Steiner; with children being born with identical names some 200 years to the day apart. Addition in Andreas Steiner’s funeral sermon Elisabetha is referred to as his widow.

In total they had nine children, but by the time of Andreas’s death three daughters were no longer alive

Wrote “time of plague a book which can be useful in the circumstances”, Trinarium sacrum, 1622; found in Pf. - Biblical Schleiz No 1504.

According to the parish records of St. Andreas, Eisleben the marriage date is 09 Nov 1617.

The Möschlitz church registers (Schleiz church district) have been filmed and can already be viewed in digital form in our reading room. But they cannot yet be seen online in the church register portal www.archion.de.
However, our film adaptations (and thus also the digitized versions) of Möschlitz only begin around 1677. Unfortunately, we are not aware of any older books from around 1623 to 1640.

If I could figure out the abbreviation for the month, we may get the complete date of their marriage.  The whole inscription is hard to decipher but here’s my first impression — “The honorable Herr Andreas Reynman pastor — of Graba himself with the — Maiden [ Jungfrau ] Sabina Trÿllerin. [ the daughter of ] Samuel Trÿller shoemaker [ Schuster ] of Saalfeld . . . ”  It looks like the couple got married one Tuesday [ Dienstag ] at a place called “Salwalde”.   That would be Saalwald — “Saal Forest”.  I looked for it on the old maps — well, as you know, Graba is north of the walled city of Saalfeld, both on the same side of the Saal River, and the Saalwald is all around both places in the west, the south and the southeast, as you’ll see from the 2021 map from Mindat.org, so, maybe, the couple got married in the forest, and not in Saalfeld.

They were married on 18 May 1585, which under the Julian calendar would have been a Tuesday.  As to the place, a forest.  Now I agree that I could make that read Saalwald, but a forest?  If this was during the 30 years was with Lutheran pastors dying, I can believe they got married in a forest.  But in1585?

That’s why I was thinking that Saalwald might be the name of either a farm or an estate but it’s so hard to find it in the old maps of the Saalfeld area.

Epitaph in der Kirche von Graba bei Saalfeld für Apollonia, die im Alter von nur 39 Jahren starb. Dort ist zu lesen:

"1566 Jahr / Andreas Reinmann vertraut war / Jung frau Appollon fromm und schön / Doctor Max Morlin Tochter verstan / Achtzen Jahr beisam in Frid Gott / Uns erhielt, acht Kinder geben hat / Als sie gelebt neun und dreißig / Den 16. Jenner vier und achtzig / In Todesstund kam zu Gott, rief emsig / Also hat Gott geliebt die Welt. / Hierauf Gott Leib und Seel zu Ruh gestellt. / Dank hab, liebs Weib, der Lieb und Treu / Gott uns ein frolich Urstand verley.“

Epitaph in the church of Graba near Saalfeld for Apollonia, who died at the age of only 39 years. There you can read:

"1566 year / Andreas Reinmann was familiar / Young wife Appollon pious and beautiful / Doctor Max Morlin daughter verstan / Eighteenth year beisam in Frid God / received us, has given eight children / When she lived nine and thirty / 16th January four and eighty / In the hour of death came to God, called diligently / So God loved the world. / Then God set his body and soul to rest / Thanks, dear wife, the love and faithfulness / God gave us a very old state.
