    • By the way, before you sent me that pair of marriages this morning, I was trying to think in German about what happened to Christoph Thomae’s stillborn son in “die Welt [ the world ]”.  That abbreviation, “hs”, is for hesterno, the Latin word for “yesterday”, meaning that the baby died on 18 July 1622, the day before his funeral.

      Yes, you have it right.  This is the burial of the stillborn son of Christopher Thomae.  The last two lines are hard to read but the second word of the third line, “todt” ( dead ), is the giveaway.  That’s why he wasn’t in the register of baptisms.
