  Robert II was nicknamed the Young during the foundation of the monastery of Chanteuges in 936, during his father's lifetime. He is mentioned as Viscount of Auvergne in the donation made by his brother, the bishop of Clermont, Stephen, to the chapter of Brioude in 962. He was the son of Robert I, and the father of Robert III, Guy I of Auvergne and Guillaume I, who were viscounts or counts of Auvergne after him.
